Jaime Dominguez to be next Head of Oakwood School
Dear Oakwood Community,
On behalf of a unanimous Board of Trustees, we are thrilled to announce that Jaime Dominguez will be the next Head of Oakwood School. Jaime will succeed Headmaster Jim Astman on July 1, 2019.
Many of you were able to meet and hear directly from Jaime during his three-day campus visit which resulted in overwhelmingly favorable survey responses, text and email messages, and a good amount of in-person feedback regarding his candidacy. Even before arriving on campus, he and Jim had a very positive meeting and it quickly became apparent that Jaime was our first-choice finalist for Oakwood School.
Jaime and his family are very excited to join the Oakwood community. They will relocate to Los Angeles from San Francisco, where Jaime has been the Head of Stuart Hall for Boys since 2005. Prior to Stuart Hall, Jaime was a teacher and administrator for eight years at the American School in London and began his career in New York City as one of the earliest members of Teach for America. He received a BA in Biology from Princeton University, cum laude, where he played on the tennis team and served as president of the Ballet Folklórico. Jaime also earned an MA in Educational Administration from Michigan State University.
Born into an extended bicultural family in El Paso, Jaime and his wife, Ti Aguirre, are the parents of Mia, who will be a 9th grader at Oakwood in the Fall of 2019, and two sons: Antonio, who will be a sophomore at Cornell University, and Alessio who will be a first-year college student. (Jaime let us know that although it may take him some time to fully embrace the LA sports teams, he IS rooting for the Dodgers this week!)
With our Head of School search process concluding, we anticipate a smooth and successful transition supported by the Board’s Transition Committee. As Jaime finishes this school year at Stuart Hall and Jim continues in his role as Headmaster through June of 2019, we look forward to an exciting new chapter in Oakwood’s history.
We are deeply grateful to the entire community for its wholehearted engagement, and invaluable help, in carrying out this process. The Board of Trustees is confident that we have found a new Head who will lead Oakwood School for many years.
